You have a year to do it for Free ( here in Illinois- Cook county)- I Had my 3rd child and I changed her name when she was 4 months old and already her SS card %26amp; Birth papers. Please check with your local bith register at the hospital. Or call your county department for vital records.
Reply:Once you fill out the birth certificate and it gets filed, you can't change the name without filing an official "change of name" for the baby. Ask the hospital administrator if they've sent in the document yet - if they haven't, you're in luck.
Reply:When I filed my paternity deal, they told us we had at that time only, to change her name for FREE. After it's signed and filed we can have it changed at any time, but we have to pay the court fees and all that.

Also you could do a legal change but that will cost you $ for papers %26amp; attorney.

Reply:I think you would have to go back to the Hospital or wherever the child's Birth certificate came from, and they could tell you more info.
Reply:Why would you need to change your baby's name? Don't you think your baby was deserving of a name at birth, and that you should have put the thought into it and given them their name as soon as they were born. They are not objects, they are people...and shouldn't have people changing their name just because the parent all of a sudden doesn't like it.
