The story has it that it was first called "Bendhe Kal Uuroo"
which means village of Beans (or that is what I think) by a King who got lost in Bangalore...and was served beans stew by a local lady..
The British mispronounced the name as what we now know as Bangalore
I'm not sure if the story is apocryphal...but lot of people believe that its true
