What was the name of the space mission that first landed on the moon?

Apollo 11.

Apollo 11 was the fifth human spaceflight of the Apollo program, the third human voyage to the moon, and the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It launched on July 16, 1969 carrying Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin. On July 21, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon, while Collins orbited above.

The mission fufilled President John F. Kennedy's goal of landing a human on the Moon by the end of the 1960s and returning them safely to the Earth.

All who say Apollo 11 are right.
Reply:Apollo 11 was the first manned space mission that landed on the moon.

There had been earlier missions that either impacted :-) or had a soft landing on the moon. See here

for just the Soviet attempts.
Reply:Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to the moon, but Luna 2 was the first mission to (crash) land on the lunar surface. It was launched Sept. 12, 1959, from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Tyuratam, U.S.S.R. and impacted the lunar surface Sept. 14, nearly 10 years before Neil Armstrong stepped out onto the Sea of Tranquility. It did not survive the landing, but data received from the probe prior to impact indicated the moon had no appreciable magnetic field, and no radiation belts as the Earth has.

Reply:The first manned mission was ofcourse Apollo 11.

PS

"Armstrong claims to have said "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.", although the "a" is not at all clear in recordings made at ground control. It has been pointed out that the audio and video links were somewhat intermittent (partly due to storms near Parkes Observatory). Recently, digital analysis of the tape by NASA revealed the "a" may have been spoken, but obscured by static"

Though as the question does not specify manned then Apollo 11 is not the first space mission to land on the moon.

The first spacecraft to reach the surface of the moon was Luna 2 in 1959,though it impacted so perhaps it doesnt count.

Details:

"Luna 2 was the second of the Soviet Union's Luna program spacecraft launched in the direction of the Moon. The first spacecraft to reach the surface of the Moon, it impacted the lunar surface east of Mare Serenitatis near the Aristides, Archimedes, and Autolycus craters."

The first space mission to achieve a soft landing rather than simply impact was Luna 9 on February 3, 1966.

Details.

Luna 9, also known as Lunik 9, was an unmanned space mission of the Soviet Union's Luna program. On February 3, 1966 the Luna 9 spacecraft was the first spacecraft to achieve a lunar soft landing and to transmit photographic data to Earth.

The automatic lunar station that achieved the soft landing weighed 99 kg. It was a hermetically sealed container with radio equipment, a program timing device, heat control systems, scientific apparatus, power sources, and a television system. The Luna 9 payload was carried to Earth orbit by an A-2-E vehicle and then conveyed toward the Moon by a fourth stage rocket that separated itself from the payload. Flight apparatus separated from the payload shortly before Luna 9 landed.

After landing in the Ocean of Storms on February 3, 1966, the four petals, which formed the spacecraft, opened outward and stabilized the spacecraft on the lunar surface. Spring-controlled antennas assumed operating positions, and the television camera rotating mirror system, which operated by revolving and tilting, began a photographic survey of the lunar environment. Seven radio sessions, totaling 8 hours and 5 minutes, were transmitted as were three series of TV pictures.

So first manned mission was Apollo 11, first impact was Luna 2 and first soft landing was Luna9.
