GEIST, s. 1. An exploit; Lat. gesta. Douglas. 2. The history of any memorable action. Douglas.

GEIST, GEST, s. 1. A joist, S. Doug. 2. A beam. Barbour. ...

Later: BAHR-GEIST as in Sir Walter Scott's discussion of the term: which he notes as difficult to define. Gaelic and earlier "ghost" issues are discussed.

The word is also in old Welsh and Irish Aire Coti: "Art of goverment, policy" or in Welsh: "dog"
