How famous do you have to be before you can just go by your first name?

Madonna and Cher get to, but George Bush (who has nukes at his disposal) has to be identified as George Bush?

Then there's Prince, for whom one name wasn't a singular enough distinction: He did that squiggle thing for awhile.

So where's the fame dividing line?

How famous do you have to be before you can just go by your first name?
well pee wee isnt too famous but there is only one of him so... we know who you mean.

my name is hillary, if i hear how is bill ONE more time...

i say "I was named AFTER her but not AFTER her". haha.

my daughter's name is cher. i am not kidding.

cherilyn. then cher for short.

there are too many georges not to tell which one, george.. of the jungle.

now if i hear BILL, i immediately think of you and not that other bill.

cher (my 8 yr old) liked your spite pic, she had to read it several times i even had to make her spell it to see it.
Reply:just call me Johnny
Reply:As unique and renowned as Spite.
Reply:Money RULES!!!
Reply:Determination and arrogance
Reply:it just comes down to unique'ness.... there are lots of john's, jennifers, peters and such.... but only 1 famous cher and madonna.... same with jesus and god =)
Reply:i don't think there is one just stop telling people your last name just tell them bill at that's it
Reply:About as famous as Chickeeze...

Not that famous, I guess.

Obviously it has to do with how memorable or different a name is. Example-- Madonna, Cher, Prince, Beyonce, Oprah, Bono, Condi. There aren't many people with names like those anywhere, plus they're famous.

On the other hand, George could be anyone...
Reply:Why can Bono be known by one name and not Sonny Bono?

No wait....sorry, I messed up.
Reply:Then I must be famous because my avatar has only one name!

;-)
Reply:Well, you tend to meet many more Georges than you do Madonnas or Chers...
Reply:You can do it now but people will think you are crazy. Even if you are famous.
Reply:In my opinion u have try not to share ur last name and refer 2 urself by using ur first name only. Hope I helped
Reply:Hard to say , but everybody knows who we're talking about when I mention DUBYA.

I wonder if there is anyone else around that famous for his middle name initial ?.

Whether it is famous or infamous is another matter.
Reply:Those people have always gone by their first names publicly. So I guess that's all you have to do. Only tell people your first name!
Reply:When they do something so infamous that people talk about it world wide, that's when it happens. Like nekkid twister parties
Reply:Your name just has to be unique enough. How many other Madonnas and Chers do you hear about?
Reply:by number of years and fans
Reply:you need a name that's distinctive- like Cat
