Dos any one know what the name of the first ship that came on scene in the Titanic rescue?
The Carpathia was the first ship on the scene, captained by Capt Arthur Rostan

The Californian was within sight but misinterpreted the distress signals and steamed away.

Reply:gravybaby gets it right...Californian was stopped in the icefield a ways away...just how far is argued to this day..they saw Titanic's distress flares but the Captain thought it was a party and went back to sleep.....
